Faculty—

Tlaloc Rivas, assistant professor in the Department of Theatre Arts in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been awarded the Sir John Gielgud Fellowship in Classical Directing from the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation. The fellowship, originated in 1996, provides opportunities for early- and mid-career directors to study the artistic processes of master directors of classical plays.

The Gielgud Fellowship will send Rivas to the Court Theatre in Chicago, where he will work with director Charles Newell on his production of Iphigenia in Aulis by Euripides, which will open in November 2015.

Ingo Titze, professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is a founding board member of a newly-created organization devoted to the scientific study of voice. The Pan American Vocology Association’s website went live on Oct. 8, and the Inaugural PAVA Symposium was held Oct. 9-11 at the University of North Carolina.

Susannah Wood, associate professor in Rehabilitation and Counselor Education in the College of Education, was awarded the North Central Association for Counselor Education and Supervision 2014 Outstanding Professional Teaching Award on Oct. 17 in St. Louis.

Students—

Raven Maragh, a graduate student in Communication Studies, was named a UI Obermann Center HASTAC Scholar for 2014-15.

In addition, the appointment includes a $500 stipend to be used for research expenses.

HASTAC, the Humanities, Arts, Science, and Technology Advanced Collaboratory, is designed for graduate students with interests and expertise in digital media, 21st-century higher education, digital humanities, and technology in the arts, humanities, and sciences.

Meredith Rausch, graduate student in the College of Education, has been awarded the North Central Association for Counselor Education and Supervision Outstanding Graduate Student Award.

Alumna—

Ashley N. Kielty, (BA, '10; MA, '14) has been awarded the Teacher Promise Award from the Iowa World Language Association (IWLA). The award was presented at the IWLA conference Oct. 10-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Publications

Faculty—

Travis Vogan, assistant professor in American Studies and Journalism in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, edited a special journal forum on the topic “The Sports Documentary In/As Sport History.” The forum, which also includes an article authored by Vogan, is featured in the Journal of Sport History.

Thomas Oates, assistant professor in American Studies and Journalism in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, is the co-editor of a new book published in June, The NFL: Critical and Cultural Perspectives.
