Action on first business case follows visits to university campuses

Following is an update on Rising to the Next TIER, the transformation and efficiency study of Iowa’s public universities commissioned by the Iowa Board of Regents.

In its Aug. 6 meeting, the Iowa Board of Regents unanimously approved the following motion relative to the TIER study and Deloitte’s services for the implementation of Wave 1 of the Sourcing and Procurement Business Case:

  • The Board of Regents exercises the option under the original Letter of Engagement to proceed with Deloitte for implementation of Wave 1 of the Sourcing and Procurement Business Case.
  • The Board of Regents delegates to Executive Director Robert Donley authority to negotiate a contract with Deloitte for implementation of Wave 1 of the Sourcing and Procurement Business Case.
  • The negotiated contract will be submitted to the Board for approval.

During the week of July 27, the Deloitte team returned to the University of Iowa for additional meetings with campus stakeholders including members of the UI Sounding Board.

The topics of discussion with the Sounding Board included recapping the Phase 1 report to discuss questions and comments, obtaining feedback on how to best communicate with the university community going forward, and discussing the project timeline.

Similar to its successful meetings at Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa over the previous two weeks, the focus of Deloitte’s work at the UI was to gather additional input from campus representatives to develop business cases for the administrative areas.

The team had begun analyzing the information collected at ISU and UNI and drafting business cases related to these areas. Deloitte will incorporate the UI information gathered last week into the analysis.

Further, preparations are under way at a lower level of intensity for conducting working sessions on the academic program opportunities in the fall semester. The planning discussions are addressing initial team composition and the gathering of background data in preparation for work to commence in September when faculty are available.
