University of Iowa Health Care leaders announced this morning that University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City appears again on "Best Hospitals" listing compiled annually by U.S. News & World Report.

At UI Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center, nine specialties are ranked overall.

  • Cancer
  • Cardiology and Heart surgery
  • Ear, Nose & Throat
  • Gynecology
  • Nephrology
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery
  • Ophthalmology
  • Orthopaedics
  • Urology

Jean Robillard, M.D., vice president for medical affairs with University of Iowa Health Care, said, "These rankings reflect the outstanding quality of our programs and confirm that we stand among the nation’s elite health care leaders."

University of Iowa Children’s Hospital was also previously ranked in eight specialties by U.S. News & World Report.

“This wonderful news demonstrates again that Iowans can be justifiably proud of the excellent patient care, teaching and research done here at Iowa, proving once more that we have world-class outcomes across the board,” says Debra Schwinn, M.D., dean of the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine.

UI Hospitals and Clinics is also recognized as “high-performing” in the following specialties:

  • Diabetes & Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
  • Geriatrics
  • Pulmonology
