More than 140 of the University of Iowa's most talented undergraduate student researchers will showcase their work Wednesday, July 30, at the ninth annual UI Summer Undergraduate Research Conference.

The conference, sponsored by the UI Graduate College, will run from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Iowa Memorial Union's Main Lounge. The event is free and open to the public.

The conference is a culmination of the students' summer undergraduate research experiences at the UI. Because participants present their work to the university research community, the event serves as an important professional development opportunity for students.

Twenty-five of the students are participants in the Graduate College's Summer Research Opportunity Program. Other summer undergraduate researchers are sponsored by several university departments and programs, with additional funding provided by the U.S. Department of Defense, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation.

Students in these UI summer research programs work directly with faculty mentors in laboratories across seven colleges and 41 departments and programs. The research programs help the university recruit talented students, many of whom may choose to continue their work at the UI as graduate scholars.
