University of Iowa officials announced Friday, June 6, that UI alumnus Jeffrey D. Kueter will serve as the new president and chief executive officer of the UI Alumni Association.

Kueter, currently president of the George C. Marshall Institute in Arlington, Virginia, will begin his new job July 31. He succeeds Vince Nelson, who is retiring after leading the organization since 1997.

Before taking the helm of the George C. Marshall Institute in 2002, Kueter was the research director for the National Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing. He also manages the Capital Area IOWA Club of Washington, D.C., which was recognized as the IOWA Club of the Year from 1999 to 2012, and he served on the UI Alumni Association’s Board of Directors from 2002 to 2009.

“We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Kueter back to the University of Iowa campus,” says UI President Sally Mason. “His extensive management experience and volunteer work coupled with his dedication to his alma mater will position him well to lead the Alumni Association in the years ahead.”

Kueter says he is excited to return to Iowa City—and the University of Iowa.

“I am looking forward to working with the great people of the University of Iowa to advance the institution and build on the ties that bind UI alumni across the country and the world,” he says. “I hope to improve upon the robust network of IOWA Clubs so that other alumni can have the same experience I have had.”

Kueter received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the UI in 1993, and currently serves on the political science department’s alumni advisory board. He also received two masters degrees from George Washington University: one in security policy and science and technology policy studies from the Elliott School of International Affairs, and one in political science from the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.

In 2011, Kueter received the UI Alumni Association’s Distinguished Young Alumni Award. To see Kueter’s curriculum vitae, click here.

In seeking to fulfill this mission, the association values high quality, innovative services that provide opportunities for learning, fellowship, and strategic alliances that include and benefit all alumni.
