The University of Iowa Mobile Museum will visit the Mills County Historical Museum in Glenwood on Friday, May 9.

The museum—a collaboration between the Office of the State Archaeologist, the Old Capitol Museum, and the UI Museum of Natural History—will be parked at the Mills County Historical Museum in Glenwood Lake Park and will be open to the public from 3-7 p.m.

Admission is free. Local second-grade students will visit the Mobile Museum earlier in the day as part of a field trip.

The 38-foot, custom-built RV features exhibits on Iowa history, archaeology, and paleontology, as well as an interactive digital wall that invites visitors to explore UI research and creativity. “Iowa’s Ancient Agriculturalists,” an exhibit curated by the Office of the State Archaeologist, tells the story of the Glenwood culture centered in the Loess Hills of Western Iowa more than seven centuries ago.

The nonprofit organization, Loess Hills Archaeological Interpretive Center (LHAIC), hopes to preserve the cultural, historic, and archaeological resources of the Loess Hills and the Glenwood culture by constructing a “state-of-the-art” interpretive center in Mills County

Representatives with LHAIC say they are focused on raising awareness about the proposed building, and appreciate the opportunities the Mobile Museum will make available to do so. LHAIC board members will be on hand Friday to share information about the future of their project.
