Thursday, May 1, was a big day for philanthropy on the University of Iowa campus, as the UI and the UI Foundation celebrated the third annual “Phil’s Day.” Short for philanthropy, “Phil” represents all who donate to the university, as well as everyone who benefits from those gifts.

Using the popular Phil Was Here logo and theme, many campus buildings were tagged to show the impact philanthropy has at Iowa, and students, faculty, and staff were invited to sign thank-you cards for donors at postcard-signing stations located on the Pentacrest and throughout campus.

The highlight of the day was the Phil’s Day talk by Henry B. Tippie (1949 B.S.C.), who spoke to a standing-room-only crowd at the IMU. His message to students? Realize the effects of philanthropy on your education, find a way to give back, and, because the UI is giving you a strong educational foundation…the best is yet to come.
