WHAT: The 39th annual meeting of the American Regions Mathematics League (ARML)— described as the “World Series of mathematics competitions”—which takes place simultaneously in Iowa City and in three other locations around the country.
WHERE: In various locations in the Iowa Memorial Union on the UI campus.
WHEN: Friday and Saturday, May 30 and 31. Teams of high school age and some junior high mathematicians will arrive on campus this evening and compete in a relay, “The Estimathon” Friday, May 30, from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Illinois Room of the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU).
They will participate in team and individual activities in various IMU locations from 9 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. Saturday, May 31, and convene for an awards assembly in the Second Floor Ballroom from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. also on Saturday.
All 400 students in 30 teams will be in the IMU Main Ballroom at 10:30 a.m., working on high-level high school mathematics problems. This would be an especially good time to get footage of students and/or to talk to an organizer.
WHO: Math teams will come from Texas, Georgia, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa. The University of Iowa College of Education’s Belin-Blank Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development is an event host.
