Event is one of many during April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Wednesday, April 23, 2014

Rape Victim Advocacy Program (RVAP) staff are inviting individuals with an interest in reaching out to the community and raising awareness about different kinds of violence to help with the Clothesline Project. The event will be Tuesday, April 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Pentacrest lawn.

Those who would like to volunteer can sign up here, providing their name, email address, and the shift during which they can help.

Volunteers can take one hour shifts and do not have to stay the entire time. The rain location is the Old Capitol Town Center. Volunteers are especially needed at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for setting up and taking down the display.

The Clothesline Project is a display of t-shirts in honor of victims and survivors of all genders who have experienced sexual assault, domestic violence, child sexual abuse, and homicide.

Brochures will be available with explanations about the significance of the event, what each t-shirt color means, and other information about resources and support for victims and survivors. There will also be an RVAP staff member on site at all times to work with volunteers and to provide additional information and support.

Those who would like to volunteer can sign up here, providing their name, email address, and the shift during which they can help. Volunteers will only be contacted in regard to the Clothesline Project.

The Clothesline Project is one of many activities and events taking place on the University of Iowa campus and in the community during April, which is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. To read a related story, see Empowering and educating.
