The University of Iowa School of Music will present a joint performance by the University of Iowa’s Johnson County Landmark and the University of Northern Iowa’s Jazz Band One at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, in the Englert Theatre in downtown Iowa City.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Jim Oatts will serve as guest director for Johnson County Landmark; Chris Merz will direct Jazz Band One. Both ensembles with feature saxophonist Dick Oatts during their sets, and the ensembles will combine forces at the end of the show.

Johnson County Landmark is a jazz orchestra, under the direction of UI School of Music faculty member John Rapson, devoted to the performance of original compositions by jazz masters past and present. Its programs have included the music of Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Tadd Dameron, Thad Jones, and Charles Mingus, as well as current stars Maria Schneider and John Hollenbeck.

The School of Music is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
