Offices and Awards

Faculty—

Art Durnev, associate professor in the College of Business, has been awarded ECGI Finance WP Best Paper Award from the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). Durnev's paper, co-authored with Rui Alburquerque and Yrjo Koskinen from Boston University, is titled "Corporate Social Responsibility and Asset Pricing."

Drs. Julie Holloway, professor in the Department of Prosthodontics, and Anne Williamson, associate professor in the Department of Endodontics, have been selected to participate in the American Dental Education Association Leadership Institute.

Burns Weston, professor emeritus in the College of Law, has been elected to the editorial board of the peer review Journal of Human Rights and the Environment.

Susannah Wood, associate professor in the College of Education, has been elected secretary-elect of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES.)

Tarrell Portman, associate professor in the College of Education, has been elected president-elect of ACES.

Students—

Jaime Knight, Master of Fine Arts student in Printmaking, is one of five national graduate recipients of the prestigious College Art Association Professional-Development Fellowship. The fellowships support promising artists and art historians who are enrolled in MFA and PhD programs nationwide. Fellows receive $5,000 grants to help further career goals and facilitate the transition between graduate studies and professional careers.

Andrew Adrian, graduate student in biology, has been awarded the 2014 American Institute of Biological Sciences Emerging Public Policy Leadership Award.

Adrian will participate in a training program on communicating with policymakers and attend a briefing on the federal budget for scientific research in Washington, D.C. in April.

R. William Field, professor in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, was featured on "In Depth - 60 Minutes" on KBS.

The focus of the hour long documentary was radon and lung cancer. KBS is the national broadcasting station in South Korea. http://english.kbs.co.kr/.

Clint MacKinney, assistant professor in the Department of Health Management and Policy, presented "Medical Staff Roles in Accountable Care Organizations," to National Rural Accountable Care Organization in Sandusky, Mich; Lincoln, Mich; Ridgecrest, Calif; Lone Pine, Calif; Bishop, Calif and Mammoth Lakes, Calif., Jan. 6-15.

MacKinney also presented:

  • "Transitioning to a Value-Based Health Care Future " to National Association of Counties in San Diego, Calif., on Jan 31.
  • "Rural Health Strategies for a Value-Based Future" to WIPFLI in Minneapolis, Minn. on Feb. 5.

Keith Mueller, professor in the Department of Health Management and Policy, presented "Lessons from Tele-Emergency" to Health Affairs Briefing on Connected Health in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 5.

Will Jennings, lecturer in the department of Rhetoric in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, presented "Writers Who Play: Music, Performance, and the Creative Writing Process," panel at the 2014 Association of Writers and Writing Programs conference in Seattle, Wash. in February.

Jennings also presented, "Memoir in the Historical Context," reading sponsored by The Southern Humanities Review in Seattle, Wash. in February.
