March event takes place at downtown Iowa City's new FilmScene

The University of Iowa Museum of Art will host its monthly First Friday art reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on March 7 at Iowa City's newest film venue, FilmScene, located at 118 East College Street on the Pedestrian Mall.

The reception, See and Be Scene, offers an artistic double feature: the works of Steve Vail Fine Arts – Project Room, located in the same building, as well as Scott Duncan's photography project, Touba, shown in the FilmScene lobby. Additionally, a short art film will be screened in the theater.

Established in 2013, SVFA - Project Room focuses on American and European modern and contemporary prints and works on paper. The goal of the gallery is to present affordable, museum-quality work to a wider audience, featuring high-profile artists whose works are exhibited in major museums around the world.

The current exhibition brings together works by 14 internationally acclaimed artists to explore the relationship between Art and Architecture throughout the mid-20th and 21st century. Featured artists include Andre Komatsu, Guillermo Kuitca, Vito Acconci, Buckminster Fuller, Mathew Mccaslin, Tom Slaughter, John Giorno, Antony Gormley, Richard Meier, Sol Lewitt, and Victor Vasarely.

Scott Duncan is a highly recognized and sought-after director/cinematographer. He has earned nine Emmy Awards for Individual Achievement in Cinematography and Best Documentary, as well as 26 Emmy nominations throughout his career.

Duncan’s commercial work includes directing and shooting for national and international clients. He has also worked with high profile celebrities, musical artists, and athletes. For over a decade, Duncan's stunning imagery has visually represented the powerful opening and closing broadcasts of the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.

Duncan is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography.
