Dr. Daniel Caplan, professor in the Department of Preventative and Community Dentistry, has received a one-year, $25,000 grant from the Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation to support his project, "Association between Dental Treatment and Time-to-Death among Nursing Home Residents in Eastern Iowa."
Dr. Ghadeer Thalji, assistant professor in the Department of Prosthodontics, has received a one-year $48,000 grant from the International Team for Implantology Foundation.
Students—
Steven Savoy, student in the Graduate College, has been awarded a $25,000 Doctoral Fellowship in Accounting grant from the Deloitte Foundation.
The fellowships, awarded to high performing accounting doctoral students planning to pursue academic careers upon graduation, helps support their final year of coursework and subsequent year to complete their doctoral dissertation.
A team of students from UI has advanced to the regional finals of the Fifth annual Hult Prize. The 2014 Hult Prize will focus on the 250 million slum dwellers around the world suffering from chronic diseases.
The team members are Astha Singhal (Graduate College, Public Policy Center), Karthik Iyappan Gunasekaran (Henry B. Tippie School of Management), Mitul Sarkar (alumnus, Neuroscience doctoral program), Sandeep Bodduluri (Graduate College, Biomedical Engineering) and Simrit Kaur Sodhi (Carver College of Medicine).
The UI team will compete at the Hult Prize regional competitions on March 7 and 8, in Boston, Mass.
