The United States has experienced a tumultuous history—challenged by world wars, totalitarian creeds, and even civil war. Today, the U.S. seems to confront political divisions of such depth that gridlock has become the hallmark of executive-legislative relations in Washington and many state capitols.

Former Iowa congressman Jim Leach, who served for three decades on Capitol Hill and now teaches law at the University of Iowa, will lead a timely and interactive discussion on the causes and consequences of what he considers the most unnecessary social division in this nation’s history. The event, “Gridlock: A Debilitating Political Challenge,” is part of the UI Alumni Association’s (UIAA) ongoing Lifelong Learning series

Part of the UIAA’s ongoing Lifelong Learning series, “Gridlock: A Debilitating Political Challenge” takes place at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts, 1301 5th St. Although the event is free and open to the public, participants are asked to register by noon on Tuesday, Nov. 5, by visiting here.Refreshments will be served.
