A student and a former UI president on the role of private support in sustaining the arts
Thursday, November 21, 2013

Aly L. Olson, a music major and presidential scholar who came to the University of Iowa last year from Des Moines to pursue her dreams of working in the arts, has never had the opportunity to perform at Hancher or the UI music building, both of which were damaged in the flood of 2008.

She talks with UI President Emeritus Willard L. “Sandy” Boyd, a longtime champion of Iowa nonprofits, about Iowa’s strong tradition of artistic excellence, the UI community’s commitment to rebuilding the arts campus, and the importance of culture and creativity in our lives.
