Poets Lucy Ives and Haley Thompson, alumnae of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, will read from Orange Roses and Home Is a Place Worth Burying, respectively, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in a free reading at Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City. The reading also will be streamed live on the University of Iowa Writing University website.

Ives is the author of the books Orange Roses, Nineties, Anamnesis, and the chapbook My Thousand Novel. Her work has appeared in the Colorado Review, FENCE, VOLT, 1913, Ploughshares, Verse, and other journals. A deputy editor at Triple Canopy, she is co-editor of Corrected Slogans: Reading and Writing Conceptualism, published by Triple Canopy and the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver.

Home Is a Place Worth Burying is Thompson’s first book of poetry. Her work has appeared in Forge Journal. She now lives in Nashville, Tenn. Dora Malech, author of Shore Ordered Ocean and Say So, says of Thompson’s work, “Haley's poems shimmer with the intimacies of memory and place. They weave the consolation of sparkling specificities through the inevitable truths of loss and time. These are poems that enable us to see our yesterdays and our today anew.”

The Iowa Writers’ Workshop is a graduate program in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
