UI Powwow celebrates 20th anniversary April 13-14

The University of Iowa American Indian Student Association will host the 20th anniversary Powwow Saturday and Sunday April 13-14 in the UI Recreation Building, featuring dance and drum competition, food and arts and crafts.
On Saturday, doors open at 10 a.m. with Grand Entries taking place at noon and 7 p.m. On Sunday, doors open at 10 a.m. with a Grand Entry at noon.
The Powwow will include several other special events as well, including an I-Man Hand Drum Contest, sponsored by Wayne Silas Jr.; a Men’s Northern Traditional and Women’s Applique, in memory of Frank and Bernice Sanache; and a Youth Hand Drum, sponsored by Winona Kingbird.
Admission for one day/both days is: adults ($10/$15), children under 12 ($5/$8), senior citizens 60 and over ($5/$8), and $5 for dancers and drummers. UI students with IDs are $2/$3, and Kirkwood Community College students with IDs $5/$8.

The UI Recreation Center is located at 930 Evashevski Drive, just northwest of the Kinnick Football Stadium. Parking will be available in Lot 43, on the west side of Kinnick and on the south side of the Recreation Building.
