Vivian Gornick, who wrote for many years at the Village Voice, will read from her work at 7 p.m. Monday, April 8, in a free reading at Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City. The reading also will be streamed live on the University of Iowa Writing University website.

Gornick is an essayist and critic. Her books include In Search of Ali Mahmoud: An American Woman in Egypt, Essays in Feminism, Fierce Attachments: A Memoir, Approaching Eye Level, The End of the Novel of Love, The Situation and the Story: The Art of Personal Narrative, and The Men in My Life, which was a National Book Critics Circle Award finalist for criticism. Her latest book is Emma Goldman: Revolution as a Way of Life, published in 2011.
