The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free alumna recital by soprano Emily Truckenbrod at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, in the University Capitol Centre recital hall.

Truckenbrod, accompanied by Linda Perry on piano, will perform works by George Frideric Handel and Richard Strauss, among others.

Truckenbrod has appeared in recital, concerts, and opera throughout the United States and in Italy, France, Austria, and Honduras. Her voice has been described by reviewers as “having sweet clarity” that “personifies the joy of the music.” On the opera stage, she has appeared as the Queen of the Night and Papagena (The Magic Flute), Susannah (The Marriage of Figaro), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Adina (L’Elisir d’amore), Marie (The Daughter of the Regiment), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Oscar (Un Ballo di Maschera), Nella (Gianni Schicchi), Yum Yum (The Mikado), and Monica (The Medium). Equally comfortable with oratorio and orchestral works, Truckenbrod has appeared as soloist with numerous ensembles across the United States. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts and master’s degree from the University of Iowa.

Perry is emerita professor of music, retired in 2012 from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, where she was director of keyboard studies and coordinator of the graduate program in collaborative piano. Best known as a collaborative artist, she has performed extensively as a recitalist.
