The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free recital by faculty member Jonathan Allen at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in the University Capitol Centre recital hall.

Allen will perform on trombone and will be accompanied by School of Music alumnus Daniel Kubus on piano.

The program will include Three Medieval Dances, transcribed by Christian Lindberg; Elegy for Mippy II by Leonard Bernstein; Fantasie by Sigismond Stojowski; Sonata by Eric Ewazen; The Conditions of a Solitary Bird by Lawrence Borden; and Sonata, "Vox Gabrieli" by Stjepan Šulek.

Allen, lecturer in trombone and University of Iowa alumnus, has served as adjunct instructor of low brass at St. Ambrose University. As a member of the Orchestra at Temple Square (UT), Allen performed weekly international television and radio broadcasts with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, in addition to performing on several audio and video recordings with the ensemble. He has performed with the Quad-City Symphony, Cedar Rapids Symphony (now Orchestra Iowa), Utah Symphony Orchestra, Boulder Philharmonic, Cheyenne Symphony, Fort Collins Symphony, and the Temptations. In addition, he has appeared on several film soundtracks and commercial recordings.

Kubus has served as a staff accompanist at Truman State University for six years. He has performed throughout the United States. At 14, Kubus performed in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. His instructors have included famed performer and pedagogue Jane Allen; Barbara Lieberman, former principal keyboardist for the St. Louis Symphony; Uriel Tsachor, University of Iowa School of Music professor; and Jack Winerock, professor at the University of Kansas.
