The University of Iowa Pentacrest Museums continues its free concert series, Piano Sundays, Sunday, Feb. 3, in the Senate Chamber of Old Capitol Museum. The landmark event features the re-dedication of and a film about a restored 1878 Steinway concert grand piano named “Rose.”

The film, Note by Note: The Making of Steinway L1037, will be shown at noon, followed by a 1:30 p.m. concert featuring UI Professor Ksenia Nosikova and her students. Nosikova is a member of the School of Music faculty.

Rose, an 1878 Steinway and Sons Centennial Style 3 Concert Grand in Rosewood, was acquired in the fall of 2006 with the help of West Music of Coralville. Since that time, the concert grand piano was used in more than 90 performances. Two years ago, it became clear that it was time for the piano to be reconstructed, so it was returned to the Steinway factory in New York City, where it received a new soundboard, keyboard, pinblock, and other updates. The UI School of Music funded the restoration.

Additional Piano Sunday events for the spring of 2013 will be held March 3 with Nosikova and students in collaboration with the Iowa Chapter of American Liszt Society and Drake University students, and April 7 with UI professor Réne Lecuona and her students.
