Electronic Music Studios to host Dec. 9 concert

The Electronic Music Studios, housed within the University of Iowa School of Music, will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in 101 Becker Communication Studies Building on the UI campus.
The program will include:
- Sirens Speak by Will Huff
- La Voz del Fuelle by Diana Salazar
- Epassi Suite by Zane Merritt
- Casi nada (“Almost nothing”) Electroacoustic Suite by Elsa Justel
- Tranquility for electronics by Kyong Mee Choi
The UI Electronic Music Studios were founded in 1963, when renowned physicist James Van Allen supervised a thesis project by James Cessna to build the world's first digital synthesizer. Van Allen persuaded the School of Music Composition Area to establish an electronic music studio. Lawrence Fritts, professor of composition in the UI School of Music, has served as director since 1994.
