Disaster drill at Carver-Hawkeye puts local agencies to the test

The University of Iowa hosted a mock disaster drill Wednesday, May 16. The disaster, which involved a sarin gas attack followed by a dirty bomb detonation at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, put local emergency responders to the test.

Led by the State of Iowa Weapons of Mass Destruction Response Team, the drill involved a myriad of local and regional agencies as well as a number of local volunteers.

Iowa Now was on hand to capture some of the sights at the beginning of the disaster.

A dummy victim is removed from the scene.

A dummy victim awaits medical attention.

"Victims" are sorted according to the severity of their injuries.
