Week of Winning

Are you a UI student? Want to get some great discounts and a chance to win season football and basketball tickets? It's your lucky week.

The S.T.A.T. Week of Winning works like this: Find the name of the day's featured downtown business on Facebook, Twitter, or Foursquare. Visit that location and show that you follow one of the S.T.A.T. social media sites. Get a coupon or a gift, and a chance to win the grand prize (if you're a S.T.A.T. member).

The week ends Friday, May 4. Find more info on the S.T.A.T. website, and happy winning.

How many University of Iowa students can say they got to play ball in Kinnick Stadium? This week, add some 300 more to the list.

They participated in the first-ever Dodging for Dreams tournament sponsored by Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (S.T.A.T.), the UI Alumni Association’s organization for current students. The April 29 event raised $3,000 to support Dance Marathon and the UI Children’s Hospital.

“We were kicking around ideas for a new event to get students involved, something unique to the university,” says Ryan Klatt, UI sophomore and S.T.A.T. Ambassador. “Once we came up with the idea of a dodgeball tournament, we said ‘Why not try to hold it at a really special place?’”

Six-player teams faced off in the historic stadium, battling through a chilly spring rain. At the end of the day, the PC Beaters took home the trophy.

S.T.A.T. has about 3,000 student members, including 65 S.T.A.T. Ambassadors who develop networking, social, and service events. The organization aims to help students get engaged in campus life and connected with UI alumni.
