Features Brahms, Bach, and Tchaikovsky

Violinist Diana Seitz, a guest of the University of Iowa School of Music, will present a free recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in the Riverside Recital Hall.

With pianist Shane Spangler she will perform Brahms' Sonata for Violin and Piano #1 in G major op. 78; J.S. Bach's Chaconne from Partita for violin solo in D minor (BWV 1004; Ernst's The Last Rose of Summer for violin solo; and Tchaikovsky's Waltz Scherzo for violin and piano).

Seitz began her pursuit of music in her hometown of Baku, Azerbaijan. At the age of nine she made her first public appearance as a soloist with a chamber orchestra in Moscow, and as a teenager she became a laureate of the Azerbaijan National Violin Competition and appeared as a soloist with the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Orchestra.

After completing studies at the Moscow Conservatory, Seitz was forced to leave her homeland due to ethnic persecution. Accepting the invitation of the American government, she moved to the United States, where she now teaches at Washburn University.
