University of Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City will host an open house event to introduce its Fragile X Clinic from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 14 at the Center for Disabilities and Development, 100 Hawkins Drive in Iowa City.

The open house will provide families an opportunity to meet one another and learn about the care and services provided by the Fragile X Clinic. Speakers will include Dianne McBrien, M.D., clinic director, Jennifer Luria, LMSW, clinic coordinator, and Carolyn Tomberlin, Fragile X LINK Leader for Iowa.

Fragile X is a family of conditions associated with changes in a gene on the X chromosome. Fragile X disorders affect intellectual, behavioral, and social development.

The Fragile X Clinic provides evaluations and treatment in the areas of speech and language therapy, behavioral analysis and treatment, nutrition, and occupational therapy including sensory integration, hearing, and educational evaluation. Medication assessment and treatment of syndrome-specific issues such as anxiety, ADHD, and sleep disruption are also offered.
