Famed Enso String Quartet performs May 4 in Iowa City
Monday, April 23, 2012

The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present the Enso String Quartet on Friday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 310 North Johnson Street in Iowa City. The concert is the culmination of Hancher’s “Caps Off to Nurses” program, which shares classical music in healthcare settings as a way to thank nurses.

This year’s “Caps Off to Nurses” program will take the Enso String Quartet to the Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City and the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. The ensemble will also perform at the UI Hospitals and Clinics and the new UI College of Public Health.

For the May 4 performance, the award-winning quartet will perform Luigi Boccherini's Quartet in G minor, op. 32, no. 5; Franz Schubert's Quartettsatz in C minor, D. 703; Kurt Stallmann's Following Franz; and Benjamin Britten's Quartet No. 2 in C Major, op. 36.

Hancher’s presentation of the Enso String Quartet is part of a nationwide, month-long initiative to raise public awareness of the many styles of small ensemble music performed and presented today. Chamber Music America (CMA), the national service organization for ensemble music professionals and the organizer of National Chamber Music Month, has invited its membership of more than 6,000 music professionals to participate in this first-time-ever endeavor. Jacob Yarrow, Hancher’s programming director, serves on the CMA board of directors.

“Caps Off to Nurses” and the Hancher performance by the Enso String Quartet are supported by the Hancher Partners.
