Gerling will present lecture-recital

Brazilian pianist Cristina Capparelli Gerling, a guest of the University of Iowa School of Music, will present a free lecture-recital, "In search of creative performance: a study of Chopin's Barcarolle op. 60," at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28, in the Riverside Recital Hall.

A leading figure in the musical circles of Brazil, Gerling appears frequently as soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, guest teacher, and lecturer in North America and Europe. She was a visiting scholar at the UI from 1996 to 2000.

Gerling was instrumental in establishing the highly respected graduate music program at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, in Porto Alegre, where she is a faculty member. Her former students have gone on to study and hold faculty positions in renowned music schools throughout North and South America. She is now a scholar at the University of Connecticut.
