Offices and Awards

Leslie Baxter, professor of communication studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, received the Gerald R. Miller Book Award from the National Communication Association for her book Voicing Relationships. Baxter also received the Outstanding Book Award from the Family Communication Division of the National Communication Association.

Ruth Bentler, professor and department chair of communication sciences and disorders in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was awarded Honors of the Association at the annual Iowa Speech-Language Hearing Association convention.

Nathan Bogert, doctoral candidate in music performance and saxophone student of Kenneth Tse, won the first prize in the Music Teachers National Association's Young Artist Performance National Competition.

John D’Agata, associate professor of English in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was awarded a research fellowship with the Guggenheim Foundation.

Richard Fumerton, F. Wendell Miller professor of philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was named a fellow in the CIC Academic Leadership Program.

Bob McMurray, associate professor of psychology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, received the 2012 American Psychological Association (APA) Award for Distinguished Early Career Scientific Contribution to Psychology and the APA's 2012 Boyd McCandless Award.

Adriana Méndez-Rodenas, professor of Spanish and Portuguese in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was awarded a fellowship with the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Notre Dame for Spring 2012.

Corinne Peek-Asa, professor of occupational and environmental health and associate dean for research in the College of Public Health, was honored at the Corridor Business Journal's 2012 Women of Influence banquet.

Larry Robertson, professor of occupational and environmental health in the College of Public Health, was named a fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences.

Phillip H. Round, professor of English and American Indian Native Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was awarded the James Russell Lowell prize by the Modern Language Association of America for his book, Removable Type: Histories of the Book in Indian Country, 1663-1880.

Emily Wentzell, assistant professor of anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, received Honorable Mention from the Society for Medical Anthropology for her dissertation, “Composite masculinities: Aging, illness, erectile dysfunction, and Mexican manhood.”

Robert E. Yager, professor emeritus in the College of Education, received the Outstanding Leadership in Science Education Award, presented by Pearson Publishing Company in cooperation with the National Science Education Leadership Association.

Clinton MacKinney, clinical assistant professor of health management and policy in the College of Public Health, presented “The Medical Home: A Primer and a Survey” and “Frontier Extended Stay Clinic Assessment Interim Report (informal)” to the Frontier Extended Stay Clinic (FESC) Steering Committee Jan. 11 in Anchorage, Alaska.

A. Clinton MacKinney, clinical assistant professor of health management and policy in the College of Public Health, presented “Advanced Payment ACO Program Tailor-Made for Rural?” to the Rural Health Care Leadership Conference Feb. 5-8 in Phoenix.

Keith J. Mueller, professor of health management and policy in the College of Public Health, presented “Toward a High Performance, Sustainable Rural Health System” to the Rural Health Care Leadership Conference Feb. 5-8 in Phoenix.
