Site features

Overall, the redesigned Iowa Now site streamlines navigation and display, provides more ways to discover and share content, and works across a wide range of devices.

Main menu

A prominent, simplified menu structure helps users find content by audience (“News for…”), topic (“News about…”), or UI colleges and administrative units (“News from…”).

Main content

The main area of the Iowa Now home page offers a rolling display of feature content starting with what’s most recent. This approach gives every big story some time in the spotlight.

Featured events

Integrated with the new UI Events Calendar, these listings offer a snapshot of upcoming performances, lectures, exhibits, and more.

Achievements

This section offers a dedicated showcase for awards, grants, publications, and other accomplishments from faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

In the News

Headlines here point to UI-related news in local, national, and international media.

UI Spotlight

This space points to some of the best content appearing on other UI websites.

Discovering and sharing

Visitors come to Iowa Now content from all sorts of sources—emails, social media posts, Google News digests, and links across the web. The redesigned Iowa Now site foregrounds options for discovering related stories and sharing content via visitors’ own networks.

Look for social media sharing buttons at the top and bottom of each page. Find related stories in the right column of each page. Use the tags and keywords at the bottom of pages to discover even more related stories.

Responsive design

The Iowa Now website is built for desktops, tablets, and phones alike. Layouts scale and shuffle for different size displays.

Also, the site is designed for all visitors, including those who use assistive technology. If you encounter accessibility issues, email us at now@uiowa.edu.
