Three Iowa Writers’ Workshop alumni win big in literary awards season

Garth Greenwell, Yaa Gyasi, and Adam Haslett, among others, recognized nationally
Alumni from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop won an exceptional number of national literary awards in this year’s awards season. The novels of three alumni in particular—Adam Haslett, Garth Greenwell, and Yaa Gyasi—received numerous honors. Workshop director Lan Samantha Chang says alumni were heavily represented in all categories of literary award.

Schiff, Levine to read from poetry April 24

University of Iowa faculty poets Robyn Schiff and Mark Levine will read from their work at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in a free reading at Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City. The reading also will be streamed live on the University of Iowa Writing University website.

Five poets to read at Rescue Press event Nov. 8

Five poets included in “The New Census: An Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry,” the new book from Rescue Press, will read at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in a free reading at Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City.
