Three Iowa Writers’ Workshop alumni win big in literary awards season

Alumni from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop won an exceptional number of national literary awards in this year’s awards season. The novels of three alumni in particular—Adam Haslett, Garth Greenwell, and Yaa Gyasi—received numerous honors. Workshop director Lan Samantha Chang says alumni were heavily represented in all categories of literary award.

Workshop grad Shacochis a finalist for 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction

Writers’ Workshop graduate Bob Shacochis on Monday was named a finalist for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Shacochis was nominated for his work “The Woman Who Lost Her Soul.” The 2014 prize went to Donna Tartt, for her best-selling novel “The Goldfinch.” Pulitzer winners and finalists are announced simultaneously.
