After a national search, Brad Rohrer has been named the university’s next chief information officer and associate vice president. Rohrer succeeds Steve Fleagle, who will retire this spring after 40 years of service to UI. Rohrer, vice president for information technology at the University of Miami, will begin on Feb. 23.
Farrukh Bashir named associate vice president, director of Facilities Management

Farrukh Bashir has been named associate vice president and director of University of Iowa Facilities Management. Bashir succeeds Lynne Finn, who will retire after a decade of service to the university. Bashir, assistant director of Facilities Management at the University of Minnesota, will begin on Feb. 2.

UI alum’s gift celebrates Iowa’s girls basketball history

In the 1930s, Sheryl Stoll’s mother wasn’t allowed to compete in the Iowa high school girls state basketball tournament because the school superintendent thought it would be too strenuous for young women. That memory, and meeting Iowa women’s basketball coach Jan Jensen, inspired Stoll to create an endowment called the Iowa High School Girls Basketball Pioneer Fund that supports women’s basketball at Iowa.
UI wins $1.5 million to accelerate materials science research

The University of Iowa has been awarded $1.5 million to advance materials science research by leveraging various materials’ features for quantum technologies. The award also will position the university’s MATFab facility as a regional innovator.
