University of Iowa researchers have found and confirmed a gene that allows female fruit flies to get on the same frequency as courting males. Mosquitoes have the same gene and a similar courtship ritual, meaning that canceling the gene could in theory control mosquito population growth.

Amanda Haertling Thein, the University of Iowa’s associate provost for graduate and professional education and dean of the Graduate College, has accepted the position of dean at the University of Colorado Boulder School of Education. She will begin the position on July 1.

New UI mass email policy takes effect Jan. 13

The policy, administered by the Office of the Vice President for External Relations and the Office of Strategic Communication, is the result of a campus communications survey and evaluation of existing policies of peer and other Big Ten institutions.
