Finalists will be invited to campus for hybrid interviews in April
Thursday, March 11, 2021

The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, has updated the timeline for the University of Iowa presidential search.

As discussed in the March 5 search committee meeting, the deadline for applicants to submit their materials will be March 15. On March 16, the search firm, AGB will grant the search committee access to the materials.

The search committee plans to meet on March 26 to identify semifinalists, with virtual semifinalist interviews proposed for April 1–3. The committee will then recommend a number of finalists who will be invited to campus.

“I want to thank the search committee for the tremendous amount of work that they have put in so far,” says search co-chair John Keller. “This is a huge responsibility and they have done a great job. Our most important work lies ahead, though, as we begin evaluating applications, narrowing the field, and holding interviews.”

Hybrid, on-campus interviews for up to four finalists, including virtual open forums with the campus community, are scheduled to take place April 12—23. The schedules and logistics for finalist interviews will be established and announced in the near future. Names of each finalist will be announced publicly 24 hours prior to the beginning of their interview.

The tentative dates are:

  • Finalist 1: April 12—13 (this date will be eliminated if only three finalists are selected)
  • Finalist 2: April 15—16
  • Finalist 3: April 19—20
  • Finalist 4: April 22—23

The campus community will have until April 27 to provide feedback via a Qualtrics survey, and the search committee will reconvene on April 28 to prepare their comments about the finalists to present to the Board. The search committee will meet with the Board of Regents on April 29 or April 30.

“This is such an important process, and we will continue to be as open and transparent as we can,” says co-chair Sandy Daack-Hirsch. “We have been following the best practices document that was developed with the Board of Regents, and will continue to do so. This is an exciting time for the University of Iowa.”

The Board of Regents will interview each finalist and make its selection of the next University of Iowa president on April 30.
