Nothing says Homecoming at Iowa quite like an enormous edifice covered in corn. The tradition is believed to have started in 1919, when a group of enterprising engineering students decided the Pentacrest would look better with a bunch of ears of corn on it.

The dedicated Hawkeye engineers who make the corn monument possible need your help. They’ve set up a GOLDrush campaign, and they’re almost there.

They were right.
And so (with the occasional lapse here and there), Hawkeye engineers continued to build corn monuments for decades, eventually solidifying into a Homecoming tradition.
