The new University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is postponing its original Dec. 10 move-in until late January or early February 2017.

In evaluating the progress to date, officials determined that they are close, but not quite ready, to move patients and staff into the new facility. The safety and comfort of patients, their families, and hospital employees are the top priorities.

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics administration recognizes the outstanding efforts by the crews working around the clock, as well as UIHC staff members who have been involved in planning and coordinating the move-in and opening, and thanks all involved for their dedication to this project.

Officials believe a late January/early February move-in and opening will provide the safest environment and smoothest transition for everyone involved. They will announce a new opening date in the next few weeks.
