University of Iowa flood barriers and other protective measures are scheduled to be removed from campus by Monday, Aug. 4, ahead of the fall semester.
This week the UI will remove flood walls around Art Building West (ABW) and along the east and west banks of the Iowa River; remove water pump generators and fuel tanks; reopen ABW and the Hancher and IMU footbridges; remove storm drain plugs; and perform general cleanup and repairs to the campus landscape and sidewalks, as needed.
The UI has already removed the HESCO barriers in front of Mayflower Residence Hall and reopened Beckwith Boathouse, while the City of Iowa City has reopened all lanes of North Dubuque Street.
UI officials said that because of the construction vehicles used to remove flood protection measures, pedestrians are cautioned to avoid work areas.
