Allen to give trombone recital Feb. 23

The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free recital by faculty member Jonathan Allen at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in the University Capitol Centre recital hall. Allen will perform on trombone and will be accompanied by School of Music alumnus Daniel Kubus on piano. Story

Soprano Truckenbrod to perform Feb. 24 recital

The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free alumna recital by soprano Emily Truckenbrod at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, in the University Capitol Centre recital hall. Truckenbrod, accompanied by Linda Perry on piano, will perform works by George Frideric Handel and Richard Strauss, among others. Story

Beachy-Quick, Keith to read from their poetry Feb. 21

Dan Beachy-Quick and Sally Keith, alumni of the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop, will read from their poetry at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in a free reading at Prairie Lights Books in downtown Iowa City. The reading also will be streamed live on the UI Writing University website. Story

Dance department presents faculty/grad concerts

The University of Iowa Department of Dance will present a faculty/graduate concert at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 21-23, in Space Place Theater in North Hall. The program will feature world premiere pieces from UI faculty and student choreographers. UI dance students will perform the works. Story

Six suites in succession

Mark Bernat has long wanted to perform the six cello suites by Johann Sebastian Bach in one marathon concert, only on Bernat’s instrument of choice, the double bass. In 2013, the performing arts coordinator for UIHC's Project Art will have the opportunity to play Bach back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back. Story
