The University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts will present the 2013 Iowa New Play Festival, the most ambitious new-play festival in collegiate theater, with readings and staged productions May 5–11 in the UI Theatre Building. Directing a theater production is a bit of a balancing act. Kristin Clippard has walked this tightrope many times, and loves every minute of it. She will direct "She Stoops to Conquer," the final production of the 2012-2013 University Theatres Mainstage season; the show opens April 19 in E.C. Mabie Theatre. Story
UI Theatre is sorry to announce that the Holly Hughes Gay Marriage Performance Workshop (April 2-5) and the Holly Hughes performance (April 6) have been cancelled due to the artist’s illness. UI Theatre plans to reschedule the workshop and performance during the 2013-2014 season. Story

"Puddin’," written and developed by Bethany Jackson, and "Spot’s Community," written and directed by Taylor Cook, will be presented together on March 27 and 29. Jacob Schiller and Emilia Hodges will collaborate on "Lungs," by British playwright Duncan Macmillan; it will be presented March 28 and 30. All shows are free and open to the public.

The Ten Minute Play Festival, featuring eight plays written by University of Iowa undergraduate students, will be showing at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 14-16, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, in Theatre B of the UI Theatre Building. Story
Students in the UI Department of Theatre Arts are working with the Moving Company, a Twin Cities-based theater organization, on developing the latter's tale of modern-day poverty and isolation, set in the fantastical world of fairy tales. The fruits of their labor will be unveiled Feb. 7. Story
Tlaloc Rivas came to theater through activism, embracing the art for its capacity to illuminate problems and inspire change. Now a UI professor of theatre arts, he talks about plays, politics, and his more recent project—a centerpiece of the 2013 MLK Celebration of Human Rights. Story
