Whether it is your first, fifth, or fifteenth semester on campus, the Pentacrest Museums—Old Capitol Museum and the Museum of Natural History would like to welcome you to the University of Iowa and invite you to come visit your campus museums at an open house from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28.
At the Old Capitol Museum you will take a step back in time as you explore early Iowa government and unique temporary exhibitions in the beautifully restored building featuring a mix of new gallery spaces and period decorated rooms.
Just steps away at the Museum of Natural History in Macbride Hall you will find yourself immersed in over 500 million years of Iowa's natural and cultural heritage, discover mammals from across the globe, be surrounded by over 1,000 birds, and learn about important new UI scientific research.
You will be able to go behind the scenes to view collection and lab spaces at the Museum of Natural History and talk to staff and students working on our latest projects, such as curating delicate insect specimens. There will also be information tables for students to learn about museum groups, research and volunteer opportunities, as well as refreshments. Old Capitol Museum will be having a special opening reception for the new exhibit "Iowa Football: The Birth of a Legacy," with a special appearance by Herky and members of the Iowa Spirit Squad and refreshments beginning at 5 p.m.
