Each year, the University of Iowa Presidential Committee on Athletics (PCA) recognizes student athletes who have excelled academically and athletically during the previous year. For the 2014–2015 academic year, 222 student athletes—approximately one-third of all student athletes—were recognized.

The award medallion's color signifies the number of years the student lettered while earning a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

  • The bronze medallion is awarded to first-year students; 90 students received the recognition.
  • A light bronze medallion is awarded for a second year of academic and athletic achievements; 57 student athletes received this medallion.
  • The silver medallion honors students for a third year of academic and athletic achievements; 46 students were awarded the honor.
  • The final award is the gold medallion for students earning this distinction for a fourth year; 29 student athletes received this award.

The PCA, comprised primarily of faculty and includes administrators, staff, students, and alumni, is responsible for advising the president and the director of athletics on policies for UI athletics programs consistent with NCAA and Big Ten Conference rules; policies of the Iowa Board of Regents; and relevant university policies.

Student athletes and their parents, along with the PCA and UI athletics administrators and coaches, were invited to the PCA Banquet to be recognized. Student athletes were also acknowledged at halftime of the men’s basketball game versus Northwestern University on Jan. 31, 2016.
