As Iowa’s first public university, the University of Iowa has a proud history of improving the lives of Iowans across three different centuries. UI President Sally Mason will explore a number of historical milestones Nov. 20 in Des Moines when she speaks on, “The University for Iowa: A Legacy of Service and Engagement.”
The event continues the popular Hawkeye Lunch and Learn series, which has been drawing capacity crowds monthly to the John and Mary Pappajohn Education Center, 1200 Grand Ave. Guests are invited to bring their lunches—desserts and drinks will be provided.
The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited to 80 guests. An additional 40 will be accommodated in an overflow room with a live feed from the lecture room. All guests are encouraged to RSVP online, as it is unlikely that walk-ins will be accommodated. Those who can not attend in person, may watch a LiveStream at www.ustream.tv/channel/ui-now.
The Hawkeye Lunch and Learn series offers monthly events in Des Moines and Iowa City designed to connect Iowa communities, university faculty, and government and industry leaders. The Provost’s Office of Outreach and Engagement sponsors the series. Upcoming events in Des Moines include:
- Dec. 16: Jon Winet and the Digital Studio for Public Arts & Humanities
- Jan. 13, 2015: Allyn Mark, professor of internal medicine and co-director, UI Obesity Research and Education Initiative
- Feb. 10, 2015: Corinne Peek-Asa, professor of occupational and environmental health and director of the UI Injury Prevention Research Center.
From the sciences to the arts and humanities to health care and beyond, the UI has long seen its mission of teaching, research, and service as part of a whole—ultimately, to engage with Iowans to make life better for the people of Iowa, the nation, and the world.
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all UI-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, contact the Office of the Provost in advance at 319-335-3565.
