University of Iowa students are getting an affordable, quality education that positions them well for the job market, UI President Sally Mason said at the President’s Forum on Thursday, Oct. 16.

Twenty-seven of the UI’s graduate programs and hospital clinical specialties rank in the top 25 according to US News & World Report, including ten in the top 10 in the country. And for the tenth straight year, the UI has been designated a “Best Buy” in the Fiske Guide to Colleges, one of only 23 public universities from the U.S., U.K., and Canada on the list.

Mason added top rankings and student success factor into the value of the degrees that students receive at the UI, and it’s one of the reasons why 90 percent of the graduating class in 2013 was either employed or in graduate school within seven months after graduation.

“The success of our students and that of the faculty and staff who teach and support them are the main ingredients of the high academic achievement that we are so proud of at the UI,” said Mason.

Speaking at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Mason praised this year’s first-year class, which is the largest and most diverse in the UI history, as well as one of the most academically accomplished.

“As I travel across the state and nation and talk with community leaders and business owners, I consistently hear that Iowa graduates are not just highly trained professionals but hard workers and caring community members,” said Mason. “Our students are seen as the next generation of leaders, and I know that our hometown Hawkeyes will continue to bring innovation and excellence to communities across the state, nation, and world in the years to come.”
