WHAT: University of Iowa officials will report on annual external funding totals, discuss funding trends, and share information about the latest research initiatives. Immediately following the press conference reporters will have an opportunity to use the driving simulator.

WHEN: 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1

WHERE: National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS) in the UI Research Park, 2401 Oakdale Blvd., Coralville.

WHO: UI President Sally Mason and Vice President for Research and Economic Development Dan Reed. Following their remarks, other UI officials, researchers, and undergraduate students taking part in driving research will be available for stand-up interviews.

WHY: Robust federal, corporate, and other external funding is critical to supporting research, scholarship, and instructional activities at the UI. Research in particular is a core part of the UI’s mission and benefits Iowans and the world through groundbreaking discoveries in the sciences, medicine and the humanities, unparalleled educational and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, economic impact via startup and spinoff companies, and resources designed to help the state’s entrepreneurs succeed and existing businesses thrive.
