Faculty—

Hosin (David) Lee, professor of civil and environmental engineering, has received an award from the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST) for his contribution in strengthening the professional network among ethnic Korean Young Generation scientists and engineers and enhancing Korea-US Cooperation in science and engineering.

Lee was presented the award July 11 by KOFST president Boo-Sup Lee at the Presidents of Ethnic Korean Science and Engineering Association and Young Generation Forum (YGF) with attendees from 17 countries.

Schools, Culture, and Society associate professor Chris Ogren received an International Travel Award from International Programs.

Staff—

Don Guckert has been awarded the 2014 Meritorious Service Award, APPA’s highest award for individual service.

Guckert, associate vice president and director of Facilities Management for University of Iowa, is being honored for years of participation and service to APPA and the field of facilities management for education institutions.

Award recipients were recognized during the 2014 APPA Annual Conference and 100th Anniversary celebration in San Diego, California July 21-23.

Students—

Denison Kuruvilla, graduate student in Pharmacy, was awarded a Pharmaceutics Graduate Student Research Meeting (PGSRM) Award for Excellence in Research for his poster, "Evaluation of In Utero Erythropoiesis in Preterm Infants" at the PGSRM conference in Chicago, Illinois on June 27.

Alumna—

The Academy of General Dentistry announced that William McBride, DDS, FAGD, of Dubuque, received the association's Fellowship Award during the academy's 2014 Annual Meeting & Exhibits in Detroit.

The award is presented to dentists who seek to provide the highest-quality dental care by remaining current in their profession. To earn the honor, McBride completed 500 hours of continuing dental education, passed a comprehensive written exam and fulfilled three years of continuous membership in the academy. As an award recipient, he joins more than 6,400 active fellows who have gone above and beyond the basic requirements to care for their patients' oral health.

McBride graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2010 and practices dentistry at Midwest Dental in Dubuque.
