WHAT: The annual "Cancer in Iowa" report issued by the State Health Registry of Iowa, based in the University of Iowa College of Public Health.

WHO: Charles F. Lynch, medical director of the State Health Registry of Iowa and professor of epidemiology at the UI College of Public Health, will present the report findings and discuss the report's focus on human papillomavirus (HPV).

George Weiner, director of Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UI and president of the Board of Directors for the Iowa Cancer Consortium, will discuss HPV vaccines, their utilization, and the continued need for cervical cancer screening via the Pap test.

Nitin Pagedar, assistant professor in the department of otolaryngology, division of head and neck surgery in the UI Carver College of Medicine, will discuss oropharyngeal cancers, an HPV-related cancer involving the tonsils and base of tongue that affects both men and women.

In addition to the physicians, a patient affected by HPV-related cancer will also be available to offer a personal perspective.

Following the formal remarks and the Q&A session, the presenters will be available for one-on-one interviews.

The report includes estimates of cancer diagnoses and deaths in Iowa for 2014 and a special section on HPV and related cancers.
