Artist Brigitte Martin to speak at Art Building West

The University of Iowa School of Art and Art History will present a public lecture by artist Brigitte Martin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in Room 116 of Art Building West.
Martin, a native of Germany, apprenticed with a German master goldsmith after working for Sotheby's and an international contemporary fine art gallery for a number of years. Her jewelry has been exhibited at the Museum of Art in Cleveland and in galleries across the United States. Martin curates and juries exhibitions nationally; in 2012, CBS media named her one of the best art curators.
In 2008, Martin created the international online social network CRAFTHAUS to foster camaraderie and professional exchange within the international craft community. She founded a national Craft Think Tank in 2011 and continues to organize the annual meetings in cooperation with the American Craft Council. In 2012, Martin published her first book, Humor in Craft, which won a Gold Medal at the Independent Publisher Book Awards in 2013.
