UI community speaks out on sexual misconduct
Friday, February 28, 2014

More than 200 University of Iowa students, faculty, staff, and community members gathered for a listening session on sexual assault and misconduct Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Iowa Memorial Union.

Speakers—including UI President Sally Mason, who opened the event with a personal account from her undergraduate days—shared their own experiences, stories from friends and family, and hopes for the future.

Participants also offered critiques—sometimes pointed—of university policy and called for additional resources to help survivors of sexual assault. A panel of UI leaders responded to questions, but spent most of the 90-minute session simply listening and learning.

Watch the video above for a selection of the comments and thoughts from participants on where we go next.
