The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present Naturally 7 on Friday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Englert Theatre in Iowa City (221 E. Washington St.). The R&B a cappella group has developed a singing style the artists call “Vocal Play.”

Vocal Play differs from tradition a cappella in that the latter is singing without instruments, while Naturally 7’s style involves singing as instruments—each member of the group excels at recreating the sound of an instrument (or instruments) with only his voice.

The group has toured the world with Michael Bublé, earning accolades as a stellar opening act. A reviewer for the Grand Rapids Press raved, “Rarely does an opener melt the crowd like Naturally 7 did. By the time their half hour set ended, all too soon, many jumped to their feet to give the stellar musicians a standing ovation.”

Full-length Naturally 7 concerts, like the upcoming Hancher performance, allow the group to explore the entire range of its vocal prowess and creativity.

The performance is supported by the Hancher Partners and gifts to the Hancher Circle through the UI Foundation.

Tickets are $35 and $30 for nonstudents; $31.50 and $27 for senior citizens; $31.50 and $10 for college students; and $17.50 and $10 for youth from the Hancher Box Office.

The Hancher Box Office, located on the first floor of the south end of the Old Capitol Town Center near the parking ramp, is open for phone (319-335-1160 or 800-HANCHER) or walk-up business from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Tickets may be ordered online at the Hancher website. Any remaining tickets will be available for sale one hour before show time at the Englert Theatre.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all UI-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, contact the Hancher Box Office in advance at 319-335-1158.
